Περιγραφή: This thesis investigates how disparities across local labor markets, unequal access to financial markets, and technological change affect wage and wealth inequality. In the first chapter, I study how differences in local living costs and financial constraints shape workers’ career dynamics by influencing job search and migration decisions. I show that the interplay between financial frictions, local labor market characteristics, and heterogeneous job ladders explains a sizable share of wage and wealth inequality. Furthermore, the analysis highlights important policy implications that emerge when the wealth distribution is taken into account. The second chapter explores the relationship between financial market participation and earnings risk. We show that a significant portion of the decline in financial market participation observed in Italy can be explained by an increase in the permanent component of earnings risk among workers. Finally, the third chapter examines the consequences of technological change for within-occupation inequality. Using data from France, we document a decline in residual wage inequality among abstract workers. We show that firms’ technology adoption alters local competition for workers performing specific tasks, as well as the spatial distribution of firms and workers, ultimately driving changes in within-occupation wage inequality.
