Description (Translated): Formal causal inference frameworks are necessary to obtain reliable effect estimates in environmental epidemiology. This thesis, comprising three manuscripts, advances the implementation of several causal inference approaches for environmental exposures and neurodevelopment. The first study investigated the molecular signatures associated with exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals in childhood. The main innovation consisted in the integration of multi-omic data from a deeply characterized sub-sample of a large European cohort. The second study investigated how glucocorticosteroids might mediate the effects of exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals on attentional function in childhood. Main innovations included the use of the meet-in-the-middle approach and of a formal causal inference technique: the parametric g-formula. The third study implemented an evidence triangulation approach to estimate causal effects of exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals, including their mixtures, measured in pregnancy and childhood, on attentional function in adolescence. The main innovation consisted in the triangulation of evidence from several approaches to causal inference. This thesis thus enhances the implementation of formal causal inference and triangulation frameworks in the field of environmental epidemiology.
