Access to the full text of articles in PMC is free, except where a journal requires a subscription for access to recent articles." "PubMed is "a database of over 15 million citations for articles published in more than 4800 biomedical journals and magazines from the United States and 70 other countries." Coverage dates back to the 1950's and includes the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the pre-clinical sciences. Itincludes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources. PubMed differs from MedlinePlus in content and audience. MedlinePlus is a carefully selected set of links to web resources aimed at a consumer health audience. PubMed, by contrast, has very sophisticated search options including fields such as MeSH (Medical Subject Headings), language, date, publication type, population type (human or animal) and age.
