Description: 􀂃 GIS is a Geographic Information System for capturing, storing, analyzing, managing and presenting spatially referenced data. GIS is capable to integrate different types of information in an unique platform, in which alphanumeric, geographic and narrative data can be stored, queried and crossed. ; 􀂃 GIS technology can be used for scientific investigations, environmental impact assessment, urban planning, cartography, geographic history, marketing and logistics, etc. In our case, GIS can be used to evaluate hazards of natural/anthropic disasters, manage vulnerability data, organize a building inventory and support risk assessment and emergency planning. ; peer-reviewed
