Περιγραφή: The MA thesis analyzes the discourse on the fall of the Roman Empire in Croatian high school textbooks that follow the gymnasium curriculum. This thesis aims to present the image created by the discourse in the selected textbooks. Textbooks published over the past decade, spanning the period from 2010 to 2020, were selected for analysis. Given the specificity of the topic, it is covered at the end of the first year but is often also mentioned at the beginning of the second year. Therefore, it was necessary to analyze the second-year textbooks that address the subject as well. In addition, curriculum changes were taken into account, and the textbooks were placed within that context. Methodologically, the paper is grounded in Critical Discourse Analysis, historical accuracy was not assessed, nor was an imagological approach applied in the analysis. The theme of the fall of the Empire is divided into three analytical chapters, which group together economic factors, internal conflicts within the Empire, and finally the cross-border incursions of various peoples. These units are thematically directed by the factors listed by Alexander Demandt. The paper thus seeks to answer the analytical questions of how the observed factors are presented and what kind of image is created about their role in the fall of the Empire.
Diplomski rad analizira diskurs teme sloma Rimskoga Carstva u hrvatskim srednjoškolskim udžbenicima koji prate gimnazijski program. Cilj rada je prikazati predodžbu koju stvara diskurs odabranih udžbenika. Odabrani su udžbenici unazad 10-ak godina, raspona od 2010. do 2020. godine. S obzirom na specifičnost teme, ona se obrađuje na kraju prvog razreda, ali je nerijetko spomenuta i na početku drugog razreda. Poradi toga valjalo je analizirati i udžbenike za drugi razred koji obrađuju promatranu temu. Rad je metodološki potkovan kritičkom analizom diskursa, a u njemu nisu sagledane faktografske ispravnosti niti je u analizi korišten imagološki pristup. Tema sloma Carstva podijeljena je na tri analitička poglavlja u kojima su grupirani ekonomski čimbenici, oni vezani uz sukobe unutar Carstva te konačno i prekogranični upadi raznih naroda. Usmjeravaju ih tematski odabrani čimbenici koje je naveo Aleksander Demandt. Rad tako nastoji odgovoriti na analitička pitanja koja problematiziraju prikaze promatranih čimbenika te stvorenu predodžba o njihovoj ulozi u slomu Carstva.
