Περιγραφή: This article is a review of the most important intellectual achievements made by K. E. Tsiolkovskiy. The 155th anniversary of his birth is celebrated in Russia on September 2012. The author analyses the legacy left by Tsiolkovskiy as a scientist and inventor and as one of the founders of the 'cosmic philosophy', which ignites discussions in scientific circles even today. On the list of Tsiolkovskiy's achievements are models of airplanes and the ideas for development of communication and astronautics, the idea for the creation of a metal air balloon (and a working model). He showed in detail how the shape of a wing of an airplane relates to the lifting power of the plane, and the relation between air resistance and power of the plane engine. He suggested the idea of 'transport without wheels', to be supported by 'an air cushion', he found a solution to the practical problem of the volume of fuel, which is needed for an airplane to take off, gave us the idea of a multi-phase spaceship, calculated the optimum height for a flight around the Earth (300800 km above the Earth) etc. As for Tsiolkovskiy's cosmic philosophy, this is based on the idea of 'the atom' which, according to the scientist, is immortal, animated, elementary creature floating from one organism to another in the universe. This Citizen of the Universe, 'the atom-spirit', is an elemental world substance unknown to science, but with senses and ability to experience joy, sadness, happiness, delights and so on. The salvation of humankind after death is found in the endless life of the atom-spirits, which Tsiolkovskiy understands as a unity of material and spiritual substances. Tsiolkovskiy's cosmic philosophy also predicts the movement of the mankind to the different planets of the galaxy and in remote future the total bio-transformation of people into the intellectual 'animal-plants' feeding on solar energy. The author of the article concludes that Tsiolkovskiy's philosophical concept represents both 'a new salvation doctrine' and a formula of the anthropological principle.
