Description: The 耀eld of wilderness therapy has placed increasing importance on measuring effectiveness. Though studies demonstrate positive outcomes for adolescents, we lack representative samples, post-discharge data, and replication of positive results. This three-year study sought to measure outcomes and to identify mechanisms of change in wilderness therapy. We found statistically signi耀cant change from intake to discharge on the Youth Outcome Questionnaire ® and on measures of hope, life effectiveness, and treatment expectancy. We discuss when change occurs as well as mechanisms of change, demographic differences, and critical lessons we learned about conducting research in a clinical setting.
