Περιγραφή: The purpose of this study is to analyze illegal economic relations in penal labor institutions in a particular region (Western Siberia) in the period from 1945 to 1953, primarily on the basis of documents stored in the departmental archives of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as in the State Archive of the Russian Federation. The scientific novelty of the study consists in the fact that on the basis of a set of unpublished materials illegal economic relations in correctional labor institutions of Western Siberia in 1945-1953 were considered. During the work various methods of research were applied: historical-comparative, structural-historical, system-historical and others. Illegal, “underground” relations in the financial sphere emerged in ancient times. The peculiarities of the economic structure of the USSR consisted in the prevailing at that time command-administrative system, state distribution of material goods, which was not always effective. In the detention places the problem of supply became more complicated due to numerous prohibitions and restrictions, observance of the imprisonment regime, detachment of many regional correctional labor institutions from large cities of the European part of the country. Embezzlement of state funds, additions, and theft from food and industrial warehouses caused serious damage to the socialist system.
