Description: Lawrence K. Wang and Mu-Hao Sung Wang (2024). "Sludge Drying Beds Design Using International Metric Units", In: "Evolutionary Progress in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics", Lawrence K. Wang and Hung-ping Tsao (editors). Vol. 6, No. 3B, March 2024, 48 pp. Lenox Institute Press, MA, USA. Lenox.Institute@gmail.com; https://doi.org/10.17613/7ydw-1j78 ......... ABSTRACT: This publication is one of three reports written for transfer of the US drying beds technology to the developing countries. Accordingly all design equations and design examples adopt the international metric units. The design equations and sample calculations are for determination of the sludge drying beds drying time, surface area, number of drying beds sections, solids produced per year, sludge cakes removed per year, and man-power estimation for operation and maintenance. The author discuss (a) the laboratory investigations for obtaining design parameters, (b) engineering steps for sizing the drying beds, (c) sludge loading rate verification; (d) alternative scientific methods for drying bed design; (e) acceptance or modification of design criteria and (f) applications and verification of the man-power models. The first sister publication, "Drying Beds Design" [https://doi.org/10.17613/ykv5-z712] covers the subjects of traditional sludge drying beds, paved drying beds, open or closed drying beds, wedge wire drying beds, vacuum-assisted drying beds, planted drying beds, technology status, applications, limitations, performance, established design criteria, environmental impact and restriction, costs estimation, design examples, application examples, and terminologies. The second sister publication, "Scientific Sludge Drying Beds Design" [https://doi.org/10.17613/1m6q-x445] introduces the design equations and examples using the US customary units.
