Комплекс сохранившихся сегодня источников позволяет считать, что на момент создания Готской епархии она, вероятнее всего, являлась экстерриториальной епархией, находящейся вне территории Византийской империи. Реконструировать раннюю историю Готской епархии позволяет анализ Жития Иоанна Готского. Предшественника Иоанна, которого возвысил Константин V в 754 г., следует считать архиепископом Херсонским и Готским. Рукоположение Иоанна Готского грузинским католикосом означало организацию (с подачи властей Готии) новой епархии под верховным патронатом Антиохийского патриарха. После ареста хазарами Иоанна и его бегства в Амастриду, Константинополь создает «свою» Готскую епархию (сентябрь 786 – начало 787 г.), которая зафиксирована актами VII Никейского Собора. Abstract. The set of sources that have survived today allows us to believe that at the time of its creation the Gothic diocese was most likely an extraterritorial diocese, located outside the territory of the Byzantine Empire. The analysis of the Life of John of Gothic allows us to reconstruct the early history of the Gothic diocese. John’s predecessor, who was elevated by Constantine V in 754, should be considered the Archbishop of Cherson and Gothia. The ordination of John of Gothic by the Catholicos of Iberia (Georgia) meant the organization (at the instigation of the Gothic authorities) of a new diocese under the supreme patronage of the Patriarch of Antioch. After the arrest of John by the Khazars and his flight to Amastris, Constantinople created "its own" Gothic diocese (September 786 – early 787), which was recorded in the acts of the VII Council of Nicaea. |
