Περίληψη: This study investigates species-dependent iodine extraction during seaweed combustion using intrinsically present 131I as a native tracer. Under the species-specific combustion conditions employed in this study, clear differences in iodine volatilization were observed among the seaweed species. While iodine was recovered almost completely from some species, it remained predominantly in the combustion residue of others. The results suggest that iodine extraction behavior is influenced by seaweed matrix composition and that quantitative volatilization cannot always be assumed for all iodine-rich biological matrices. These findings highlight a potential limitation of combustion-based iodine extraction for certain seaweed species. Furthermore, this study demonstrates the value of intrinsically present iodine for directly evaluating the extraction efficiency of naturally occurring iodine without relying solely on externally added tracers.
