| Abstract (English): |
The accelerating technological advancement and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) are fundamentally transforming architectural education, posing new challenges to the teaching of descriptive geometry. Due to the altered cognitive habits, shortening attention spans, and occasionally deficient spatial geometric foundations of modern-day students, traditional, static teaching methods are no longer sufficiently effective. Simultaneously, the role of university instructors has also changed: rather than mere information transfer, the development of critical thinking and the filtering of information have come to the forefront. In our article, we briefly analyze the deficiencies in student input and offer some practical methodological solutions for renewing the mass education of descriptive geometry: the possibility of introducing a lecture-companion workbook supplemented with interactive diagrams, as well as a shift in focus in the classical curriculum. Finally, in a case study, we examine the performance of ChatGPT and Google Gemini on a classical architectural intersection problem. The test highlights the limitations and significant geometric errors of current AI models. In conclusion, we state that the modern goal of descriptive geometry is to establish stable spatial visualization and critical thinking, which are essential for future engineers to be able to interpret and evaluate the results generated by computer programs and AI.
