Based on the panel data of 284 prefecture-level cities from 2008 to 2020, in this article, we consider the new perspective of urban economic resilience (UER) to evaluate the Carbon Emission Trading Policies (CETP) effect. Through the multi-period difference-in-differences (DID) model and the mediation model, the influence of the CETP on UER and two essential mechanism paths are revealed, and differences in the resilience improvement effects are observed. The results show that, first, the CETP significantly enhances UER, and this conclusion remains robust across robustness tests. Second, the CETP can strengthen UER by optimizing the energy consumption structure and upgrading the industrial structure. Third, the CETP has led to more obvious improvements in economic resilience in central and western cities and non-resource-based cities compared to that in eastern cities and resource-based cities. The conclusions provide a policy basis for achieving a "win‒win" situation between the "dual carbon" goals and high-quality economic growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
