This article focuses on the development of Pigreads, a Python module designed for efficient numerical solutions of reaction-diffusion systems on graphics processing units (GPUs) with CPU fallback, relevant to cardiovascular research and electrophysiology. Developed with support from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, KU Leuven, and Leiden University’s Society, Artificial Intelligence and Life Sciences initiative, Pigreads offers a NumPy-compatible API and supports various modeling features including 0D-3D grids, anisotropic diffusion, and localized source terms. The open-source project is peer-reviewed, documented, and distributed with examples and tutorials, facilitating applications in cardiac electrophysiology and related fields. Further details are available through the Leiden University Medical Center and the published article in Computer Physics Communications. [Extracted from the article] |
