Abstract: This editorial explores young people's experiences with technology (AI, chatbots, social media, wearable devices and medical technology) using Ecological Systems Theory. The framework describes the bidirectional relationships between young people, organizations, symbols and key individuals in a variety of environments. The editorial argues that theory must evolve to integrate technologies into existing models to remain relevant to contemporary child and adolescent development.
