Abstract: Cyathocline purpurea (Family: Asteraceae) commonly known as purple bane, found in tropical and subtropical regions all across the world. C. purpurea has been identified as a valuable medicinal and edible plant among the wetland flora of India. All plant parts exhibit various applications in both traditional and modern systems. The current communication first ever phytochemically analysed the essential oils of various plant parts of C. purpurea viz. flower (CPFEO), leaves (CPLEO), stem (CPSEO), and root (CPREO) collected from the foothills of Uttarakhand. Gas chromatography- mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis confirmed that 2,5-dimethoxy p-cymene as the major compounds of CPFEO and CPSEO with 36.0% and 62.6% contribution, respectively while lavandulyl acetate (31.5%) and ionone < methyl-γ-> (38.3%) was found to be the major compound of CPLEO and CPREO, respectively. All extracted essential oils were majorly influenced by oxygenated sesquiterpenes viz. 71.2% in CPFEO, 64.5% in CPSEO, 61.30% in CPLEO and 38.1% in CPREO.
