Περίληψη: This article offers a nursing perspective on coercive measures in psychiatry. These measures should not be considered as care, but as last-resort and safety devices. They have negative effects for the people involved, and violate human rights. It is necessary to rethink these practices to promote respectful, non-stigmatizing care in order to improve the quality of care and promote the recovery of people living or who have lived with a mental health disorder.
