Περίληψη: The article focuses on applying the constraints-led approach (CLA), a methodology from elite sports training, to improve leadership development programs by better aligning learning conditions with real-world leadership challenges. It argues that traditional leadership programs often fail to produce meaningful behavior change because they remove the constraints—such as uncertainty, time pressure, conflicting stakeholders, and ambiguity—that leaders face in practice, thereby limiting transfer of learning. CLA emphasizes designing development experiences that replicate these constraints to induce productive discomfort, which fosters adaptation and skill development. The article outlines practical ways to integrate constraints into existing programs, highlights the critical role of skilled facilitation, and stresses that prioritizing transfer over participant satisfaction can close the gap between investment and effective leadership behavior.
