Computer Science education faces increasing challenges because of the growing complexity of software systems and the everincreasing industry-side need for graduates with practical engineering skills. Traditional presentation-based teaching methods often provide limited opportunities for students to immediately apply newly acquired theoretical concepts. Simulator-based learning (learning by doing) represents an effective educational strategy by allowing learners to experiment, visualize abstract concepts, and receive immediate feedback in a safe and inexpensive environment. This paper presents the design and educational purpose of a Python-based drone flight and drone interceptor simulator created for teaching introduction to programming, objectoriented programming and allowing for interdisciplinary connections in fields like physics, geometry, and simulation techniques. Rather than presenting isolated programming exercises, students construct step by step a functional simulator while learning increasingly advanced programming concepts. Every new programming concept is immediately integrated into a meaningful working application, improving motivation and facilitating interdisciplinary learning. The simulators be expanded using more advanced programming techniques, realistic conditions and complex flight strategies, thus increasing their education usage in more advanced graduate studies and even in research and creative competitions. The paper reviews existing literature regarding simulator-based learning, discusses educational benefits for both students and instructors, and presents the architecture and implementation methodology of the proposed simulator. Finally, future applications in education and research are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
