Περίληψη: This research aims to investigate the natural factors affecting the volume of surface runoff in Wadi Al-Ana Basin and to estimate runoff volume using the Soil Conservation Service Curve Number (SCS-CN) model, which is considered one of the most efficient hydrological methods for estimating surface runoff in ungauged drainage basins. The study relied on analyzing several natural characteristics influencing runoff generation, including geological structure, slope, elevation, and climatic elements represented by rainfall, temperature, and evaporation, in addition to land cover and hydrological soil groups. The results revealed the dominance of hydrological soil group (D) over most parts of the basin, which is characterized by low permeability and high runoff potential. The study also showed that poor vegetation cover occupies the largest proportion of the basin area, contributing to the increase in Curve Number (CN) values across wide parts of the study area. The category (CN = 89) recorded the highest spatial distribution, indicating low soil water retention capacity and a high probability of surface runoff generation. The research applied the SCS-CN equations to estimate runoff depth and runoff volume based on rainfall data and the natural characteristics of the basin. The findings demonstrated a clear relationship between the basin’s natural characteristics and the increase in surface runoff volume, especially in areas characterized by steep slopes and low-permeability soils. The study highlights the importance of hydrological analysis in supporting water resources management and providing a scientific basis for water harvesting projects and flood risk reduction.
