This commentary builds on Townsend et al.’s (2025) application of Knightian uncertainty to critique the predictive limitations of artificial intelligence (AI), while challenging the assumption that possibilities are inherently unknowable. It argues that entrepreneurs often possess legitimate knowledge of what can happen, even without calculable probabilities, and that AI systems can enhance this epistemic capability. The authors distinguish between knowledge of what will happen and what can happen, emphasizing that the latter is both knowable and practically valuable for entrepreneurial decision-making. Ultimately, they call for a move beyond restrictive Knightian frameworks, recognizing AI's role in expanding and legitimizing knowledge of possibilities. |
