| Abstract: |
Better expert practice will blend the reliable and useful elements of recorded vehicle data with traditional forensic engineering tools to support a broad based analysis which does not rely solely on any single technique or methodology. It will also incorporate the intersection of event-data recorders (EDR) or electronic control module (ECM) data and forensic inquiry into collisions. Reasonable document and evidence preservation practices must be installed and followed to avoid costly and potentially damaging spoliation accusations. Experts must be carefully credentialed to verify their ability to retrieve and interpret EDR and ECM data. |
