Περίληψη: This study experimentally and numerically investigates transverse sonic injection in a Mach 2.5 rectangular isolator, focusing on the effect of injector location relative to the shock-train-induced separation region. Two injection configurations were studied: an upstream injector (positioned upstream of the separation shock) and a downstream injector (placed in the separation zone induced by the shock train). Results show that upstream injection, which significantly changes the internal flow structure of the isolator, anchors the shock train to the bowshock reflection from the top wall, which creates a higher pressure rise and a higher upstream displacement (Δ X /L = 0.036 higher) of the leading separation shock compared to the downstream injection under similar operating conditions. On the other hand, the underexpansion and the upstream shock movement are relatively weaker for downstream injection due to interaction with an already decelerated flow field. The upstream injection configuration results in a larger separation region and stronger core flow upward deflection than the downstream injection case. Downstream injection causes a significantly enhanced jet penetration in the near field, i.e., by 30.6%, primarily because the jet is introduced into the separated flow region and also due to the locally reduced crossflow momentum. Upstream injection leads to a more pronounced barrel shock structure and a stronger flow asymmetry with higher sidewall separation. Moving the downstream injector closer to the initial separation shock increases upstream shock displacement, resulting in a stronger underexpanded jet and reducing jet penetration.
