In this paper, a professional rapid control prototyping solution will be presented. The whole setup consists of NI MyRIO 1900, VeriStand HIL / RCP management software and MathWorks Matlab – Simulink testing environment based on model design approach. The control law algorithm can be modeled using block diagrams in a graphical simulation environment like Simulink. NI VeriStand HIL / RCP management software integrates both hardware (MyRIO FPGA I/O resources) and software (Simulink model with virtual I/O ports). LabVIEW FPGA and other third-party tools can be used to re-configure the RIO FPGA device according to the final project needs. The novelty of this solution consists in the fact that NI MyRIO device can be used in a professional manner similar to dSPACE Control Desk, by integrating the RIO FPGA into NI VeriStand environment. LabVIEW FPGA can be considered the equivalent software of dSPACE Configuration Desk. The main advantage of the proposed setup and workflow consists in the fact that the NI hardware can be programmed with more complex tools within Matlab – Simulink. Another important advantage may consist in the fact that Matlab can build and compile neural network-based algorithms compatible with the actual presented hardware and software setup.
