Tigris River Basin (TRB) has a very important position regarding the tectonic configuration of the Zagros Fold-and-Thrust Belt (ZFTB). It is located at the northwest termination of the ZFTB bounded between the East Anatolian Fault and the Main Frontal Fault of the Zagros. To evaluate the tectonic activities in the northwest end of the ZFTB, we selected the TRB for tectonic investigation. We extracted several geomorphological indices, such as drainage density (Dd), basin relief (R), mean elevation (Me), elongation ratio (Re), relative relief (Rhp), surface roughness (SR), normalized channel steepness (Ksn), topographic position index (TPI), elevation-relief ratio (ZR), and hypsometric Integral (HI). These indices were extracted utilizing Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data and the use of MATLAB-based TecDEM, and ArcGIS software. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and weighted sum method (WSM) of the multi-criteria decision analysis methods (MCDA) were used for ranking the relative tectonic activities. Results reveal that most used indices were correlated with the zone of deep seismicity (>20km depth) at the whole north part of the TRB. The Ksn values showed a strong correlation with the thrust seismicity locations. The SR, R, and Me were highly correlated with the zones of seismicity (both thrust and strike-slip). The zones of strike-slip seismicity (northwest part of the area) reveal relatively higher tectonic activity and it refers to the possibility of detecting the strike-slip effects on the landscapes. This study recommended a detailed test for the hypsometric curve to understand why different forms of the curve have the same values and what the main effective factors causing these deviations (lithology, tectonic, and hydrology).
