Abstract: Measured alpha activity in 28 sediment of samples taken from specific marshes water areas in the Dhi-Qar Governorate of southern Iraq using CR-39 detector. The results show that the average values of radon concentration in the air (in Bq/m3) were 78.48 ± 44.21, while annual effective dose results ranged from a maximum of 1.23 mSv/y to a minimum of 0.14 mSv/y with mean value of (0.49 ± 0.27 mSv/y). Radium concentration spread ranges from for 0.644 Bq/kg to 0.072 Bq/kg with an average of 0.27 ± 0.14 Bq/kg, while the mass exhalation rate, surface exhalation rates had average values as low as 0.33 ± 0.18 mBq/Kg. h and 4.19 ± 2.35 mBq/m2. h respectively. However, uranium in unit ppm ranged from 0.81 to 0.09 and average was 0.34 ± 0.18 According to the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), the results were in the normal limits of radiation, which is not a serious danger to humans.
