This article focuses on the critical reorientation of research in sport, health, physical education, and physical activity (SHPEPA) by centering Chinese societies and diasporas as key sites of knowledge production. It critiques the dominance of Western, Anglophone epistemologies in SHPEPA scholarship, highlighting how these frameworks often marginalize non-Western perspectives and local meanings of embodiment, movement, and health. The Special Issue discussed examines how Chinese philosophical traditions, state policies, and socio-political contexts shape bodily practices, educational curricula, and identities, while also addressing issues of racialization, gender, and digital diasporas. By fostering dialogue between Western and Chinese epistemologies, the collection advocates for more pluralistic, reflexive, and context-sensitive approaches to understanding bodies and health in diverse cultural settings.
