Περίληψη: In studying life narratives, while critics have examined the author's intention and decoded ways to study it in autobiographies, memoirs, and personal essays, not enough attention has been devoted to analyzing the role of the reader and possible effects on readers' lives with the consumption of such narratives of self. This paper explores how readers' intervention in the life writing narrative, specifically memoirs, can give new insights into its existing forum of understanding. In her memoir, Azar Nafisi not only chose an adequate balancing act of reading while transitioning between personal and public space but also brought history in concurrence with the literature to craft a self. The following paper will establish the usability of reader-response criticism in studying memoirs. It will use Nafisi's text to pinpoint effective reading strategies a reader can use to respond to the memoir, thus enlarging its historically grounded boundaries with every consequential reading.
