Trekking tourism is a type of tourism that offers many opportunities for growth in tourist trips and destinations. The main purpose of the work is to investigate the basic aspects of hiking tourism in terms of supply and demand, and specifically to investigate the main characteristics and prospects for the development of hiking tourism on the island of Andros. To achieve the main objective of the work, scientific sources from both the international and the Greek literature were used in order to record and highlight the efforts made at the national or local level for the development of hiking tourism, its historical importance, the current its importance, growing trends and factors driving its growth.
It also examines the demand for hiking tourism by analyzing the current profile of hiking tourists and the aspects that influence their decision-making. Introducing the Leading Quality Trails certification to talk about certifications in the tourism industry, with a focus on ecotourism and hiking tourism. The aim is to get a sense of public opinion about the certification, to evaluate the certification as a whole, but also its different criteria, to identify how it influences consumer decisions and increases traffic in an area. Finally, quantitative research is conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire among the participants of the Andros Foot Festival and the Andros Trail Race (certified trails by Leading Quality Trails).
In research section, 169 tourists who visited Andros, participated through an electronic questionnaire. The main conclusions that emerge from the questionnaire survey are the profile of tourists visiting Andros are, based on the majority, men, aged 46-55 years, come from Greece (domestic tourists), are married, have a higher level of education, are private employees and have an increased annual income that belongs to the range of €15,000-25,000.
In the case of pull factors that influenced the respondents' choice to visit Andros for hiking, the easy accessibility of the island, the variety of hiking routes and the rich natural environment/biodiversity of the island of Andros are found in the first places and in order of priority. The vast majority of hiking tourists stated that the "Andros on foot Festival" can contribute to the promotion of the island as hiking tourism, while in terms of the synergies of hiking tourism, the main ones are nature activities and culinary activities.

Ο πεζοπορικός τουρισμός είναι ένα είδος τουρισμού που προσφέρει πολλές ευκαιρίες για ανάπτυξη στα τουριστικά ταξίδια και τους προορισμούς. Βασικός σκοπός της εργασίας είναι να διερευνήσει τις βασικές πτυχές του πεζοπορικού τουρισμού σε όρους προσφοράς και ζήτησης και συγκεκριμένα να ερευνήσει τα βασικά χαρακτηριστικά και τις προοπτικές ανάπτυξης του πεζοπορικού τουρισμού στο νησί της Άνδρου. Για την επίτευξη του βασικού στόχου της εργασίας χρησιμοποιήθηκαν επιστημονικές πηγές τόσο από τη διεθνή όσο και από την ελληνική βιβλιογραφία προκειμένου να καταγραφούν και να αναδειχθούν οι προσπάθειες που καταβάλλονται σε εθνικό ή τοπικό επίπεδο για την ανάπτυξη του πεζοπορικού τουρισμού, η ιστορική του σημασία, η τρέχουσα σημασία του, οι αυξανόμενες τάσεις και οι παράγοντες που προκαλούν την ανάπτυξή του. Επίσης, εξετάζεται η ζήτηση του πεζοπορικού τουρισμού αναλύοντας το σύγχρονο προφίλ των τουριστών πεζοπορίας και τις πτυχές που επηρεάζουν τη λήψη των αποφάσεών τους. Παρουσιάζεται η πιστοποίηση Leading Quality Trails για να μιλήσουμε για τις πιστοποιήσεις στην τουριστική βιομηχανία, με επίκεντρο τον οικοτουρισμό και τον πεζοπορικό τουρισμό. Στόχος είναι να αποκτηθεί μια αίσθηση της γνώμης του κοινού για την πιστοποίηση, να αξιολογηθεί η πιστοποίηση στο σύνολό της, αλλά και τα διαφορετικά της κριτήρια, ώστε να εντοπιστεί πώς επηρεάζει τις αποφάσεις των καταναλωτών και αυξάνει την επισκεψιμότητα σε μια περιοχή. Τέλος, διεξάγεται ποσοτική έρευνα με χρήση ημί-δομημένου ερωτηματολογίου στους συμμετέχοντες του Andros Foot Festival και του Andros Trail Race (πιστοποιημένες διαδρομές από την Leading Quality Trails). Το ερευνητικό μέρος της εργασίας στο οποίο συμμετείχαν μέσω ηλεκτρονικού ερωτηματολογίου 169 τουρίστες που επισκέφθηκαν την Άνδρο, εξάγει αρκετά σημαντικά συμπεράσματα. Κύρια συμπεράσματα που προκύπτουν από την έρευνα με ερωτηματολόγιο είναι το προφίλ των τουριστών που επισκέπτονται την Άνδρο είναι, βάσει της πλειοψηφίας, άνδρες, ηλικίας 46-55 ετών, προέρχονται από την Ελλάδα (ημεδαποί τουρίστες), είναι έγγαμοι, με ανώτερο εκπαιδευτικό επίπεδο και συγκεκριμένα απόφοιτοι ΑΕΙ/ ΤΕΙ, είναι ιδιωτικοί υπάλληλοι και κατέχουν αυξημένο ετήσιο εισόδημα το οποίο ανήκει στην κλίμακα 15.000-25.000€. Στην περίπτωση των παραγόντων έλξης που επηρέασαν την επιλογή των ερωτηθέντων να επισκεφθούν την Άνδρο για πεζοπορία, στις πρώτες θέσεις και με σειρά προτεραιότητας εντοπίζεται η εύκολη προσβασιμότητα στο νησί, η ποικιλία πεζοπορικών διαδρομών και το πλούσιο φυσικό περιβάλλον/βιοποικιλότητα του νησιού της Άνδρου. Η συντριπτική πλειοψηφία των πεζοπόρων τουριστών δήλωσε πως το φεστιβάλ “Andros on foot Festival” μπορεί να συμβάλει στην προβολή του νησιού ως πεζοπορικού τουρισμού ενώ όσον αφορά τις συνέργειες του πεζοπορικού τουρισμού, οι κυριότερες είναι οι δραστηριότητες φύσης και οι γαστρονομικές δραστηριότητες.
