Περίληψη:Trekking tourism is a type of tourism that offers many opportunities for growth in tourist trips and destinations. The main purpose of the work is to investigate the basic aspects of hiking tourism in terms of supply and demand, and specifically to investigate the main characteristics and prospects for the development of hiking tourism on the island of Andros. To achieve the main objective of the work, scientific sources from both the international and the Greek literature were used in order to record and highlight the efforts made at the national or local level for the development of hiking tourism, its historical importance, the current its importance, growing trends and factors driving its growth. It also examines the demand for hiking tourism by analyzing the current profile of hiking tourists and the aspects that influence their decision-making. Introducing the Leading Quality Trails certification to talk about certifications in the tourism industry, with a focus on ecotourism and hiking tourism. The aim is to get a sense of public opinion about the certification, to evaluate the certification as a whole, but also its different criteria, to identify how it influences consumer decisions and increases traffic in an area. Finally, quantitative research is conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire among the participants of the Andros Foot Festival and the Andros Trail Race (certified trails by Leading Quality Trails). In research section, 169 tourists who visited Andros, participated through an electronic questionnaire. The main conclusions that emerge from the questionnaire survey are the profile of tourists visiting Andros are, based on the majority, men, aged 46-55 years, come from Greece (domestic tourists), are married, have a higher level of education, are private employees and have an increased annual income that belongs to the range of €15,000-25,000. In the case of pull factors that influenced the respondents' choice to visit Andros for hiking, the easy accessibility of the island, the variety of hiking routes and the rich natural environment/biodiversity of the island of Andros are found in the first places and in order of priority. The vast majority of hiking tourists stated that the "Andros on foot Festival" can contribute to the promotion of the island as hiking tourism, while in terms of the synergies of hiking tourism, the main ones are nature activities and culinary activities.
