| description | The objective of this thesis is to examine the relations among Business Process Management, Green Business Process Management and the Clothing Industry. The goal of the thesis is to ascertain whether there is application of Green Business Process Management in the Clothing Industry or not. This is achieved by studying gradually Business Process Management (BPM) and its values. BPM can evolve to the extent of sustainability thus becoming Green BPM. Exploring the Clothing Industry and its impact on the environment, the perspective of Green Branding is analyzed, which can lead to Green BPM.
In chapter 2, the notion of Business Process Management will be broken down from a broad perspective. Its key points will be distinguished and discussed, so that they will be comparable to the matching key points of Green BPM in a next chapter.
Chapter 3 is dedicated in analyzing this relatively new aspect of BPM, called Green Business Process Management. We say new as it was first mentioned in 2009. The core parts of the Green BPM concept are analyzed so that its borders become clear. Most importantly, it is crucial to understand that Green BPM is not just green branding and does not mean that a company that implements Green BPM sells environmentally sustainable products and vice versa. It is also claimed that a company cannot truly produce an environmentally sustainable product without using environmentally sustainable processes throughout the production.
Chapter 4 analyzes the fashion industry in order to cover the whole theoretical spectrum on which the Case Study is based. More specifically, clothing industry is narrowed down in all its components, technological, social, economic, political, with a more analyzed view on the consumer and the industry’s effect in the environment. In the literature search for this chapter we tried to find any relevant element of fashion with green business process management but there is an absolute gap on this industry.
Chapter 5 contains the case study. This case study follows a problem-oriented methodology and is analyzed to identify major problems that exist in the production sector of a clothing company and to suggest solutions to these problems.
We carry out an investigation on the current state of the company, design a desired future state and then implement it. This case study concerns only one jackets production plant of the company. In the latter section of this chapter, we present the actual results of the implementation of the future state proposal and describe how these are related to Green Business Process Management.
Lastly, chapter six is a display of our conclusions on this thesis, the limitations that rose in the process and our suggestions regarding future work that can be done, based on this thesis. |
