Περιγραφή
Περίληψη:In the present dissertation we will examine the available written and material evidence of the Late Bronze Age regarding the activity of the Mycenaeans in western Anatolia and in the wider region of the eastern Mediterranean. The Mycenaean references to Hittite and Egyptian sources will be analysed and critically evaluated, combined with later classical sources, to investigate whether, even a minimal core of historical events has been preserved in the latter, regarding these raids, which date back to the Bronze Age. The purpose of this dissertation is to suggest that some memories of the Mycenaean invasions, both during their heyday and after the weakening and collapse of the palace centers, were preserved orally, despite the alterations and transformations they underwent, until the Archaic period, when they were recorded. Finally, conclusions will be drawn about the level of Mycenaean military and diplomatic power, their state organisation, and how the fall of the palaces affected the nature of these raids.
