Background: Caries is the most common childhood disease with an upward trend, especially at a young age. It is directly related to poor oral hygiene and is a serious public health problem. Health education programs conducted in the context of pre-school education can make a significant contribution to promoting and enhancing health literacy, both individually and collectively. The purpose of this study is to record the views of preschool teachers and dentists, on the contribution of systematic oral hygiene to health literacy, as well as the possibility of cooperation between these two professional sectors, for the benefit of the school and local community.
Methodology: In the present dissertation study, an approach was chosen that combines quantitative and qualitative data collection. The qualitative analysis was performed with the participation of 10 dentists and the method of semi-structured interview while the quantitative analysis was performed with the participation of 136 preschool teachers and the method of the electronic questionnaire. The three axes of the interview concerned the communication framework of dentist - patient, the promotion of oral hygiene in the local community and in kindergarten. Respectively, the questionnaire consists of 4 demographic and 15 special questions that move in five thematic axes. The statistical program SPSS was used for data analysis.
Conclusion: It was demonstrated the need to awaken the local community around the prevention of oral health and its relationship with the general health of the individual. Preschool Education can contribute to the literacy and the process of "empowerment" of infants regarding their oral health and hygiene. The education and continuous training of preschool teachers is considered necessary. Establishing collaborations with dental scientists and the local dental community, in oral health and hygiene programs, in the pre-school environment, is considered particularly important.

Ανασκόπηση: Η τερηδονική νόσος αποτελεί την πιο συχνή παιδική χρόνια ασθένεια με ανοδική τάση, ιδιαίτερα σε μικρές ηλικίες. Σχετίζεται άμεσα με την ελλιπή στοματική υγιεινή και συνιστά ένα σοβαρό πρόβλημα για τη δημόσια υγεία. Τα προγράμματα αγωγής υγείας που διενεργούνται στο πλαίσιο της προσχολικής εκπαίδευσης, μπορούν να συμβάλουν σημαντικά στην προαγωγή και την ενίσχυση του εγγραμματισμού της υγείας, σε ατομικό και συλλογικό επίπεδο. Σκοπός της παρούσας μελέτης είναι η καταγραφή των απόψεων των νηπιαγωγών και των οδοντιάτρων, σχετικά με την συμβολή της συστηματικής στοματικής υγιεινής στον εγγραμματισμό υγείας των ατόμων, όπως και η δυνατότητα συνεργασίας των δυο αυτών επαγγελματικών τομέων, προς όφελος της σχολικής και τοπικής κοινότητας. Μεθοδολογία: Στην παρούσα διπλωματική μελέτη, επιλέχθηκε μια προσέγγιση, η οποία συνδυάζει την ποσοτική και την ποιοτική συλλογή δεδομένων. Η ποιοτική ανάλυση διενεργήθηκε με τη συμμετοχή 10 οδοντιάτρων και τη μέθοδο της ημιδομημένης συνέντευξης, ενώ η ποσοτική ανάλυση διενεργήθηκε με την συμμετοχή 136 νηπιαγωγών και την μέθοδο του ηλεκτρονικού ερωτηματολογίου. Οι τρεις άξονες της συνέντευξης, αφορούσαν το επικοινωνιακό πλαίσιο οδοντιάτρου – ασθενή, την προαγωγή στοματικής υγιεινής στην τοπική κοινωνία και στο νηπιαγωγείο. Αντίστοιχα το ερωτηματολόγιο, αποτελείται από 4 δημογραφικές και 15 ειδικές ερωτήσεις που κινούνται σε πέντε θεματικούς άξονες. Για την ανάλυση των δεδομένων χρησιμοποιήθηκε το στατιστικό πρόγραμμα SPSS. Συμπεράσματα: Καταδεικνύεται, η ανάγκη αφύπνισης της τοπικής κοινωνίας γύρω από την πρόληψη της στοματικής υγείας και την σχέση της με την γενική υγεία του ατόμου. Η Προσχολική Εκπαίδευση μπορεί να συμβάλει στον εγγραμματισμό και στη διαδικασία «ενδυνάμωσης» των νηπίων αναφορικά με τη στοματική τους υγεία και υγιεινή. Η εκπαίδευση και συνεχή κατάρτιση των νηπιαγωγών κρίνεται απαραίτητη.
