Description
Summary:The quality of working conditions isstrongly associated with hygiene and safety, regardless of working sector or ground. The increasing number of work-related accidents, according to a 2005 study performed by the International Labour Organization (ILO), shows the insufficient implementation of envisaged health and safety regulations. The last few years in Greece, special significance has been given to the institution of Health and Safety. The Hellenic Air Force (HAF), in order to maintain its mission at a high level, has developed the institution ofFlight and Ground Safety (FGS), in which since 2007 the institution ofOccupational Safety and Health(OHS) has been incorporated. The present study concerns Health and Safety in the HAF and its main purpose is to analyze the significance and the meaning of OHS, as well as the comprehension of this institution by the staff of the HAF. The methodology used includes survey via questionnaire. All possible factors that can affect the way the staff understands and follows OHS, have been investigated. Also, a study focused on the relationship between the OHS and the FGS in HAF has been conducted. The research part involvesanalysis of the questionnaires data, which was performed using SPSS. Each question and some combinations of questions were analyzed using the statistical methods ANOVA and X 2 and the results were presented as tables and charts. Each result was analyzed and interpretedseparately. The data collected during the survey make it possible to assess the views of the staff of the HAF, concerning the application of the rules of OHS, the purpose of which is to minimize accidents and improve working conditions. Data analysis led to various conclusions, the most important of which are the need for a more comprehensive informing and the interest of the staff to upgrade the level of information. Finally, proposalswere made which can contribute to improve the quality of the working and safety conditions in HAF.
