| Περίληψη: | The neurosurgery is the field of surgery which is dedicated to the treatment of diseases and injuries of the central and peripheral neural systems. It constitutes a complex branch where microsurgery techniques are supported by imaging and computer technologies such as neuronavigation and neuropositioning, so that the safety of the patient and the efficacy of the operation is guaranteed.
Neurosurgery is connected with other medical specialties, such as endocrinology, neurology and oncology among others, so that a comprehensive and complete evaluation of each case is succeeded.
The cranium is the main structure of the head and the central object on which neurosurgery is performed. It houses and protects the brain in the cranial cavity as well as it secures other sensitive structures of vital importance for the function of the senses.
The brain, in its turn, constitutes the most complex organ of the human body. It produces every thought, action, memory, sentiment and experience of our world. This gelatinous mass of tissue of 1.4 kg weight contains 100 billion neural cells or neurons. Our brain forms one million new synapses in every minute of our life. The pattern and the strength of these synapses are continuously changing and there no two brains alike. It is in these changing connections that memories are saved, habits are assimilated and personalities are formed with the reinforcement or the loss of certain elements of brain activity.
Neuroscience has achieved to clarify qualities of the brain in cellular and neural level and to translate this knowledge into disease treatment. The design approach to the treatment of cerebral disorders need a detailed research and a functional approach as it refers to an organ sensitive to any changes of its balance.
In the limits of this thesis, a bibliographic research is done regarding the study of the brain and the importance of safe recovery of its function in cases of brain damages. The findings of this research will provide the conclusions that will be used as reference for the design of models – systems able to support the patient’s and the doctor’s needs in the field of cerebral health. |
