This thesis is about the identification and scientific classification of fish samples that exists in the laboratory of Biology at the department of Marine Sciences, at the University of the Aegean. These samples were collected during the years of operation of the department from the researches that were hosted by it, although most come from the Meditch program in 2002 and 2003, in which participated Dr. John Batzakas. Generally, from these researches were collected fish samples from all over the Greek seas, which are stored and maintained in the department's laboratory of Biology.
One of the purposes of this paper is to collect data about the species that are present and dominate in the Greek marine biodiversity. In particular, about their distribution and where they come from, how they are classified taxonomically, how intense is the genetic diversity, which species are related to each other and simultaneously how differentiated from one another they are. In conclusion, it is a way to improve our comprehension about the marine life, the characteristics with which it works and the way they evolve.
But the main purpose of the project is the classification and identification of the samples the department of Marine Sciences has in its possession. More particularly, the presentation of these samples it is aimed as exhibits of a natural collection, which may very well be turned into a museum collection, perhaps the only one in Greece.

Στην παρούσα πτυχιακή εργασία έχει γίνει αναγνώριση και καταγραφή των δειγμάτων ιχθύων που υπάρχουν στο εργαστήριο βιολογίας του τμήματος Επιστημών της Θάλασσας του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου. Τα δείγματα αυτά έχουν συλλεχθεί κατά τη διάρκεια των χρόνων λειτουργίας του τμήματος από τις έρευνες που διεκπαιρεόθηκαν σε αυτό, αν και τα περισσότερα προέρχονται από το πρόγραμμα Meditch του 2002 και 2003, στο οποίο συμμετείχε και ο Δόκτωρ Ιωάννης Μπατζάκας. Γενικότερα, από τις έρευνες αυτές συγκεντρώθηκαν δείγματα από πολλά είδη των ελληνικών θαλασσών, τα οποία έχουν αποθηκευτεί και συντηρούνται στο εργαστήριο του τμήματος. Ένας από τους σκοπούς της εργασίας αυτής είναι η συλλογή στοιχείων για τα είδη που υπάρχουν και κυριαρχούν στην ελληνική θαλάσσια βιοποικιλότητα. Ειδικότερα, για το που κατανέμονται και από πού προέρχονται, με ποιο τρόπο κατηγοριοποιούνται ταξινομικά, πόσο έντονη είναι η γενετική ποικιλότητα, ποια είδη συγγενεύουν μεταξύ τους και ταυτόχρονα με ποιο τρόπο διαφοροποιούνται το ένα από το άλλο. Συμπερασματικά, είναι ένας τρόπος να γίνει καλύτερα αντιληπτή η θαλάσσια ζωή, τα χαρακτηριστικά με τα οποία αυτή λειτουργεί αλλά και ο τρόπος με τον οποίο εξελίσσεται. Όμως, ο κύριος σκοπός της εργασίας είναι η καταγραφή και αναγνώριση των δειγμάτων που έχει το τμήμα Επιστημών της Θάλασσας στην κατοχή του.
