description	The aim of this study is to identify the correlation between drought indices and Rainfed Agricultural Production. Furthermore, a risk analysis is presented to understand drought risks and evaluate the economic impacts of a drought event on rainfed Agriculture. Analysis of historical data (1955-2001) of precipitation and temperature at 15 meteorological stations in Greece shows that there is a weak correlation between the two values, led by the seasonal variation. Drought Indices, Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and Reconnaissance Drought Index (RDI) are used for identification of drought events. The results show, that the main grouping is within North, West and South Greece. Both indices exhibit an overall similar behavior, however in short term periods RDI is more effective, while for long SPI is recommended. The impact of drought on rainfed production is evaluated using an econometric model. A log transformation in a linear model fitted to determine the magnitude of the economic losses under the scenario of normal conditions.

Στόχος της παρούσας μελέτης είναι να ο προσδιορισμός της συσχέτισης μεταξύ των δεικτών ξηρασίας και της ξηρικής γεωργικής παραγωγής. Μία ανάλυση κινδύνου παρουσιάζεται ώστε να γίνει κατανοητός ο κίνδυνος της ξηρασίας και να αξιολογηθούν οι οικονομικές επιπτώσεις στις ξηρικές καλλιέργειες. Έπειτα από την ανάλυση ιστορικών δεδομένων (1955-2001) της βροχόπτωσης και θερμοκρασίας σε 15 μετεωρολογικούς σταθμούς στην Ελλάδα , παρατηρείται μια αδύναμη συσχέτιση μεταξύ των δύο τιμών, καθοδηγούμενη όμως από την εποχιακή διακύμανση. Για τον προσδιορισμό των γεγονότων ξηρασίας, χρησιμοποιούνται οι δείκτες Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) και Reconnaissance Drought Index (RDI) . Τα αποτελέσματα δείχνουν ότι η ομαδοποίηση είναι δυνατή σε Βόρεια, Δυτική και Νότια Ελλάδα. Oι δύο δείκτες παρουσιάζουν μια παρόμοια συμπεριφορά, με τον RDI να είναι πιο αποτελεσματικός σε σύντομες χρονικές περιόδους, ενώ για μεγάλες συνιστάται ο SPI. Τέλος, αξιολογούνται οι επιπτώσεις της ξηρασίας στιην ξηρική παραγωγή με τη χρήση ενός οικονομετρικού μοντέλου.
