| Περίληψη: | The purpose of the present dissertation is the study of inequality of income distribution, poverty and their measuring as well. This issue is particularly complex and multidimensional going beyond the borders of economic analysis. It is an issue regarding the social structure itself and consequently, it is engaged to other fields such as Sociology, Politics and even Philosophy. In the succeeding analysis the emphasis will not be on issues associated with Sociology, Politics or Philosophy. On the contrary, it will be an economic analysis based on measuring and indexes used in such issues. At the beginning, an introduction will take place concerning theories having been stated by plenty of social scientists- economists about wealth distribution. Therefore, the continuity and magnitude of the particular issue could be illustrated. Next chapter is concerned with definitions of poverty and inequality of income, as well as the distinction between absolute and relative poverty. Furthermore, particular impacts of unequally distributed income and poverty will be demonstrated. Next step includes the presentation of inequality of income measuring mode (Gini coefficient- S80/S20 ratio). This is of utmost importance due to the fact that the results are quantified and the study of unequal distribution becomes much easier. Hence, comparisons not only among different time periods, but also among different economies will become possible. Next chapter presents unequal income distribution and poverty overtime for a number of selected economies, based on Gini coefficient and on S80/ S20 ratio as well as the percentage of the total income being acquired by the richest 10%. |
