| Summary: | Bangladesh, located in the South Asian region, is considered one of the most disaster- prone countries in the world. Flood is the greatest common physical phenomenon in Bangladesh. The country is quoted as "living with flood." Back in 2012, after a flood occurred, the Government, national and international NGOs, among them, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) responded immediately by providing supplies to the a ffected families. However, lack of local warehouse/stock and disrupted communications/infrastructure delayed the response. The distribution of emergency supplies is an important operation in the post-disaster phase. For this reason, this thesis deals with a vehicle routing problem under uncertainty, examining a model that seeks to find the shortest path including the risk factors that may block the accessibility of the road. In specific, these are the bridge type risk, the road type risk and distance from the coastline risk which might a ffect or not the choice of a path, leading to a solution with less risk. The objective of this thesis, is to introduce the first steps of methodology on how relief e ffort can be achieved better in case of a flood and road disruptions. |
