For a long time, we have known that, whatever our future society will be, it will be a “risk society”— a society likely to be affected by different kinds of traumatic events (from natural catastrophes, to war and terrorism, to financial and economic crisis). We have known for a long time, therefore, that the precondition for every possible sustainable society is its resilience — its capability of overcoming the risks it will be exposed to and the stresses and breakdowns that, inevitably, will take place. Today, the implications of this risk society are no longer only projected. They are becoming evident worldwide in our daily life experiences; the notion of resilience is moving into the vocabulary of more and more people.
From the other hand, to foster transition towards sustainability we must look beyond mainstream positions, behaviour and opinions and know how to recognise, in the complexity of signals that society sends us, those that are most promising.
In other words, those emitted by certain minorities who have been able to set up - on a local scale - radical innovations in ways of being and doing things. Once identified we must foster them and facilitate their diffusion.
This diploma dissertation explores the interdependent relation between resilience thinking and creative communities, through the lens of the biomimetic metaphor, in a theoretical endeavour that aims to find new sustainable socio-ecological solutions.

Η παρούσα διπλωματική εργασία έχει ως στόχο την αναζήτηση τρόπων για την αύξηση της ανθεκτικότητας των κοινωνικό-οικολογικών συστημάτων. Ο μεγαλύτερος βαθμός ανθεκτικότητας έχει παρατηρηθεί στη φύση, όπου ανακάμπτει από μεγάλα σοκ, είτε αναδιαμορφώνοντας την δομή της, είτε αναπτύσσοντας μηχανισμούς άμυνας απέναντι στους εξωτερικούς θορύβους. Επομένως, με στόχο την μεγιστοποίηση της ανθεκτικότητας σε ένα κοινωνικό-οικολογικό σύστημα, η παρούσα Δ.Ε. επιχειρεί να αναγνωρίσει την βιομίμηση σαν εργαλείο της σχεδίασης υπηρεσιών, το οποίο μπορεί να συνεισφέρει σε κοινωνικά καινοτόμες λύσεις. Παράλληλα, αναγνωρίζοντας το γεγονός ότι σημαντικό ρόλο ως προς την κοινωνική καινοτομία παίζουν οι μετόχοι και οι αλληλεπιδράσεις τους, η παρούσα Δ.Ε. χρησιμοποιεί τις δημιουργικές κοινότητες σαν απαραίτητη προϋπόθεση για την ύπαρξη κοινωνικής καινοτομίας και αναζητεί αν η ικανότητα σχεδίασης μιας δημιουργικής κοινότητας επηρεάζει τον βαθμό της ανθεκτικότητας της. Τέλος, η παρούσα Δ.Ε. επιχειρεί να συζητήσει ένα ερώτημα που αναδύεται στα πλαίσια της έρευνας και πλανάται σε όλα τα στάδια της εργασίας. Ένα ερώτημα που απασχολεί την σχεδιαστική κοινότητα και αφορά την απομάκρυνση του σχεδιαστή στο πέρας της σχεδιαστικής διαδικασίας. «Μπορεί λοιπόν ο σχεδιαστής σαν να αποχωρήσει από την μετά-σχεδιαστική φάση και τι χρειάζεται για να μπορεί να υπολογίζει σε μία ασφαλή στρατηγική εξόδου;» Να σημειώσουμε εδώ, ότι ο σχεδιαστής θεωρείται πως κατέχει την μέγιστη σχεδιαστική ικανότητα.
