Summary:Erosion is one of the most severe problems threatening soil sustainability of highland areas. In contrast sediment input via river flow is a vital component in mass balance of delta plains. Important in management practices and in adaptation actions is the knowledge of erosion rate. Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), a physically distributed model has been used to understand erosion and sediment transport processes on perennial rivers. At the present study the landscape of an insular basin (Eressos basin) is examined and sediment transport is simulated by SWAT model. Sediment volume accumulated in river bed and trapped into Pythari reservoir is estimated to constrain the simulation of SWAT model. The simulation results used to estimate the Bruun, basin infilling and rainfall/runoff effects on the coastal beach of Eressos.
