Initially we make a short report in the main points of our study, it is important to report that the fundamental objective of work is to connect the teaching of mathematics with the science of psychology and to use all the information we can extract from second in order to we improve first. We know that enough psychologists dealt with the study of processes of intellect at the growth of person and with the various problems that were presented during this processes. They thus accomplished to develop various theories about the learning and how this can be achieved. Some of these researchers connected immediately the results of their research and with the learning of mathematics. But even from the work of those that did not make an direct connection, we can export precious conclusions and that could be useful at the improvement of way of teaching of mathematics. In the second chapter of our study we will mention the positions of main researchers that we know. Initially, we will deal with the work of Jean Piaget as well as other researchers, the work of which has been influenced immediately by the Piaget and we will mark the points in which we find agreement and disagreement of opinions. These researchers, apart from the Jean Piaget, are: the Rochel Gelman, the Jerome Bruner, the Robert Gagnj and Eric De Corte and Lieven Verschaffel. Jean Piaget that constituted the most important researcher of the way of human thinking, from a persons birth until the adolescent age. Piaget, categorizes the levels of the evolution of human thought in four basical stages. The time period that lasts each stage of development of thought is indicative and varies from individual in individual, however the order of succession of stages she will be the same for every person. Rochel Gelman, the work of whom isimmediately influenced from that of Piagets, places in the limelight certain additional matters. Disagreeing with the Piaget, she believes that the children of preschool age are more capable to think logically from what he initially had supposed. More concretely, for the significance of number, it appears that the children of preschool age can understand ,in a level, additive and abstractive processes and hence he is not necessary to wait until they reach the sixth or seventh year before we begin certain mathematic education. Gelman gave a new dimension in the developmental theory of Piaget, since she observes that simple mathematic significances can be also taught in children under six - seven years. We continue to our study with the Jerome Bruner, basic opposition of whom to the Piaget constitutes his opinion that "a mathematical subject can be taught effectively in any child, irrelevantly from his stage of growth, as long as we use the language that the child understands". Also, the Bruner introduces us to the method of learning via discovery. The learning via discovery has various advantages: it increases his mental faculties and the level of his expectation for success, him it allows to be taught how to learn also how it thinks, it develops his creative thought. After that Robert Gagnj supports that the process of learning is carried out at successive phases. In each phase, take place certain internal activities of exterior stimuli, result of which is the final modification of behavior. Completing him first team of researchers, we mention the opinions of Eric De Corte and Lieven Verschaffel, which deal with the importance of equitable comprehension and representation of verbal problems from the children. Their important observation constitutes that most of the errors were systematic and not accidental. The second team of researchers with which we will deal they are the basic representatives of the school of Behaviorism. Beginning from Edward Thorndike we will proceed to Ivan Pavlov and, finally, to John B. Watson. In the third chapter, we will speak concisely for the influences of modern teaching of mathematics and we will analyze the most basic models of teaching that can be used from the professors in schools. In the fourth chapter, we will analyze the results of our research with questionnaires that took place in two schools of Attica in October 2007. The questionnaires that we gave they were divided in two categories: the first was addressed to the students and the second was addressed to the professors of mathematics, in these schools. First were gave the questionnaires to 100 students, 48 of them were boys and 52 girls. Our intention was to place certain questions that would help us to comprehend many things about how the children feel about mathematics, which difficulties are presented, which is the psychology of students towards mathematics and which are the methods of teaching that are used in schools. We thus came to the configuration of a questionnaire that is constituted by twenty questions separated in five teams. a) Questions that help us in the determination of place that possesses the course of Mathematics,in school level, regarding the difficulty and the interest that it causes in the students. V) Questions that help us in the determination of as much as possible more concrete difficulties that are presented at the learning of Mathematics. c) Questions that us help in the determination of methods of teaching that are applied in the schools and the problems that they present. d) Questions that us give information with regard to the creation of interest and motives to children. e) Questions that us help in the determination of situation of student. The others were given to ten professors in the same schools and the same period with the questionnaire for the students. From the answers we wish to export conclusions for who methods of teaching, how much they encourage a student-centered model of teaching but also to enlighten us on the difficulties that the children face. In this chapter we analyze the statistical results of this research, and we report some answers of children, that were particularly interesting and gave us a lot of information. In the fifth chapter, we attempt to give certain observations and proposals on the improvement of the didactics of mathematics. In the last paragraph of fifth chapter we want to point the importance of interaction of individuals of a team so that we can achieve valuable exchange of experiences, juxtaposition of opinions and attitudes. Believing that this happens also in a lot of other situations of event of behavior, as in that of learning, we consider that under certain conditions and in some cases, knowledge is conquered faster when it processes from a team of individuals that interact despite if they dealt with this each one from these individuals alone. The exchange of opinions, explanations, queries but also the disagreements contribute in the creation of right moment for learning. In the sixth and last capital of our work, we mention certain practical applications of the approach of teaching with the method of Discovery. The method of discovery can be achieved with or without the guidance of the teacher. Certainly, its application is really time-consuming and particularly exigent but it helps in the growth of abstractive thought, the creativity of children and simultaneously it creates a feeling of self-confidence in the children, that to them lend optimism and good disposal for the learning of mathematics. In this last capital, we present certain applications and examples that could be used for the teaching of mathematical units by using the method of discovery.
