| Περίληψη: | In recent years, the practice of museum education has shifted to promote historical empathy (HE) to engage visitors, educators, and students in thinking about the nuances and complexities of diverse human experiences as presented in the objects and artifacts that are exhibited in their collections. Although there is an extant amount of scholarship on pedagogical strategies that support students' demonstration of HE in K-12 traditional classrooms, there is a need to examine teachers' understandings of what HE is, particularly in the context of museum education, so that museums can provide effective educational programming and professional development that meets the needs of students, teachers, and communities. Major findings show that K-12 teachers and museum educators possessed positive beliefs about HE regarding pedagogical effectiveness in promoting historical inquiry and prosocial behaviors. However, potential challenges to promoting HE that were raised included state antidivisive concepts laws and the extent to which current events can be taught in K-12 spaces. As a result, museums can play an important role in providing HE resources and professional development by gauging the needs of teachers, schools, and communities. |
