Περίληψη: Most parents of young children tell us they feel confident supporting their child's early language and literacy. Yet confidence does not always translate into frequent reading, chatting and play. To explore this, we looked at responses from 3,505 UK parents and identified four patterns based on their confidence and engagement: confident and frequently engaged; confident but not frequently engaged; not confident but frequently engaged; and neither confident nor frequently engaged. Comparing these groups showed differences in parents' knowledge, books in the home, participation in digital activities and connections to local support, but no single factor characterised every pattern. The findings highlight the need to move beyond one-size-fits-all approaches and provide support that builds on what families already do while responding to their circumstances and needs.
