| Περίληψη: | Understanding how children and young people engage with audio offers an important window into both their media habits and their wider literacy lives. In the digital age, audio has become a growing part of how children and young people learn, relax and explore the world. However, compared with other aspects of literacy and media engagement, less is known about how they choose to listen to audio, what they feel they gain from it, and where gaps in access or engagement may lie. To fill that gap, the National Literacy Trust asked 125,375 children and young people aged 5 to 18 from 479 schools across the UK who took part in the Annual Literacy Survey about their audio listening in 2026, 110,114 of whom answered the questions about audio. This report explores their listening habits in detail, including who listens, how often they listen and what they listen to, as well as their levels of enjoyment, why they choose to listen and how they discover new audio. It also examines the attitudes associated with audio engagement, what might encourage children and young people to listen more, and the relationship between listening and reading, including reading for pleasure. Finally, the report also looks at differences by age, gender and free school meal (FSM) status to understand how audio engagement differs across children and young people's lived experiences. |
