Description (Translated): [spa] INTRODUCCIÓN: El trabajo sexual es un fenómeno social caracterizado por el intercambio de servicios sexuales por dinero o bienes y puede darse de manera ocasional o frecuente. En Colombia, pese a que el trabajo sexual no está penalizado, generalmente se ejerce en ambientes clandestinos e inseguros en las llamadas Zonas de Tolerancia debido a la exclusión social de la ocupación. El estigma y la discriminación social que experimentan las trabajadoras sexuales cisgénero provocan que muchas vivan en circunstancias sociales marcadas por la desigualdad, marginación, persecución y escasas oportunidades de alfabetización en salud sexual, exponiéndolas con frecuencia a consolidar su marco de creencias preventivas con escasa validez científica para identificar, mitigar o evitar los riesgos de daños a la salud sexual. A su vez, las creencias desfavorables facilitan que las trabajadoras sexuales incorporen algunas medidas de autocuidado perjudiciales para mantener la salud sexual o ineficaces para protegerse de los riesgos intrínsecos del acto sexual con clientes. Por otro lado, el estigma social hacia las trabajadoras sexuales es un precursor de los problemas de salud mental, lo que les dificulta entablar relaciones sociales, acceder a redes de apoyo y buscar asistencia sanitaria sin ser juzgadas o señaladas por su ocupación. OBJETIVO GENERAL: Develar las creencias y prácticas de autocuidado en salud sexual, así como la experiencia subjetiva del estigma social, entre trabajadoras sexuales cisgénero en Colombia.
[eng] INTRODUCTION: Sex work is a social phenomenon characterized by the exchange of sexual services for money or goods and can occur occasionally or frequently. In Colombia, although sex work is not penalized, it is generally practiced in clandestine and unsafe environments in the so-called Zones of Tolerance due to the social exclusion of the occupation. The stigma and social discrimination experienced by cisgender women sex workers cause many to live in social circumstances marked by inequality, marginalization, persecution, and limited sexual health literacy opportunities, often exposing them to consolidate their framework of preventive beliefs with little scientific validity to identify, mitigate or avoid risks of sexual health harm. In turn, unfavorable beliefs make it easier for sex workers to incorporate some self-care measures that are detrimental to maintaining sexual health or ineffective in protecting themselves from the intrinsic risks of sex with clients. On the other hand, social stigma toward sex workers is a precursor to mental health problems, making it difficult for them to engage in social relationships, access support networks, and seek health care without being judged or singled out for their occupation. OBJECTIVE: To unveil the beliefs and practices of self-care in sexual health, as well as the subjective experience of social stigma, among cisgender women sex workers in Colombia.
