Περιγραφή: At head of title: Tokyo Plan on Technology for Development in Asia and the Pacific (Technology Atlas Project). ; This volume presents a systematic methodology for identifying and prioritizing technological needs within national development planning. It proposes a hierarchical process that begins with national guiding objectives and proceeds through operational objectives, development sectors, subsectors, transformation activities and specific technological requirements. Technologies are classified into importing, evolving and exporting domains according to national capability, strategic importance and the appropriate balance between foreign acquisition and indigenous development. A detailed case study applies the methodology to Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector, particularly rice, sugar, subsidiary food crops, fruits and vegetables, tea, rubber, coconut and minor export crops. The publication concludes that effective technology-needs assessment can improve resource allocation, technological self-reliance, sectoral planning, international cooperation and the alignment of technology policy with socioeconomic objectives ; Sponsored by the Government of Japan. The first phase of the Technology Atlas Project (1986–1988) was financed by the Government of Japan. The preparatory country studies underpinning the project were supported by the United Nations Development Programme under project RAS/84/025. ; Part One: Overview of the Framework Part Two: Problems and Issues Chapter 1: Introduction — 1 Chapter 2: Current Approaches for Assessing Technological Needs — 11 Part Three: Concepts and Approaches Chapter 3: Hierarchical Derivation of Technological Needs — 17 Part Four: Methodologies and Procedures Chapter 4: The Needs Assessment Methodology — 31 Chapter 5: Technology Needs Assessment: The Case of Sri Lanka’s Agricultural Sector — 47 Part Five: Applications and Usefulness Chapter 6: Technology Needs Analysis and National Development — 111 Appendices Appendix 1: Important Socio-economic Objectives of Selected Countries — ...
