Περιγραφή: In this thesis we were interested in the perception of time and more particularly in the cerebral processing of temporal order which allows the order of different events in time to be determined. In aiming to better understand the functional and neural substrates underlying this process, we carried out 3 studies. The first behavioural study allowed us to demonstrate subconscious processing of temporal order. Using indirect and direct measures of temporal order processing, we demonstrated that even though our capacity to perceive order is limited (by a minimum time interval between two events), our brain is nevertheless able to process order information without it being consciously perceived. In a second step, we explored the neural substrates of order processing in two paradigms that measured order processing either directly or indirectly. Using fMRI, we confirmed the importance of the left inferior parietal lobe in temporal order processing. Finally, in a psychopharmacological study, we replicated results demonstrating that dopamine modulation affects participants’ ability to accurately reproduce duration but also showed, for the first time, that this modulation did not affect their ability to judge temporal order. As a whole, the work in this thesis furthers knowledge on the functional and neural understanding of temporal order processing and demonstrates a neurochemical and neuroanatomical dissociation between the processing of order versus duration.
