| Περιγραφή: | Documents of the Crimean War epoch are of particular interest not only from the standpoint of the history of international relations and military history. Such documents allow simultaneous both identify especially perception of military events by their contemporaries, and get rid of ideological clichés prevailing in the literature devoted to this era. The subject of my comment to Engels'' three military reviews is not only their content but also the state of the Russian army at the war theatre and in the middle of the 19th century in general. Using Russian and foreign sources on history of Crimean War, I analyze in detail course of military operations and tactics of Russian and allied forces, described by Engels. This allowed me to identify the strengths of Engels'' military analysis, and some errors made by him, the cause of which was also errors and distortions in the reports of the Allied Command. At the same time, I conclude that, in general, in his articles about the Crimean War, Engels appears at us not as a creator of "historical materialism" and not as a politically engaged journalist, but as a qualified expert-positivist. В статье анализируется цикл статей Ф. Энгельса, посвященных обороне Севастополя в Крымскую войну в 1854-1855 гг. Дается оценка степени адекватности представлений Энгельса о ходе событий и русской армии николаевской эпохи. Показаны особенности системы мобилизационного развертывания русской армии в 1833-1855 гг. |
