Description: The central region of a dental pulp contains blood vessels. Trauma or infection could cause the pulpal tissue to become necrotic, leading to gangrene and abscess formation. Also vascular bed (especially the part of microcirculatory) is the point of pathogenic factors during progressing periodontal diseases. We hypothesized that the existence and velocity of blood flow in the pulp can be detected by analysis of laser speckle patterns generated by transillumination of the tooth. The result shows that laser speckle pattern methods such as LASCA can be used to detecting the existence of dental pulp blood perfusion.
